Welcome to the weekend fishing prediction with Captain Griffin Deans of Slot Machine Fishing Charters and Skyway Bait & Tackle!

We continue to have some rough weather this weekend with winds this coming Saturday and looming cold temperatures. It’s typical spring weather for Florida, and although it seems like it’s been windy forever, the beautiful weather is just around the corner.

Warmer, more consistent weather will begin to pull the snook and redfish out of the channels and into the bays, which we are certainly looking forward to. A continuation of that pattern should have us catching them regularly and enjoying the sunshine and warm temperatures Florida is known for.

Either way, good luck out there guys, and we’ll look forward to seeing you next week!

INSHORE KAYAKERS get to remain aware and updated on these spring weather patterns. Winds above 20 mph should be a fair warning to either stay off the water or find yourself a wind shadow.

Because we kayak and can tuck up close to shores, wind shadows can be a great place to find fish hiding along mangroves, while also avoiding the waves and potential drafting high winds can bring.

If you have a pedal-driven kayak, a good rule of thumb is never to peddle further than you can paddle. If you’re paddle kayaking, be sure you feel comfortable in your conditions and have the strength to fight the wind on your way back if necessary.

Always notify a friend or family member when you’re headed out on the water of where you’ll be launching and when you expect to be back in case you get stuck in a wind shadow somewhere down the shore. And since it’s hard to leave a hot bite, communicate if you can if you’ll be late, so they don’t worry.

Spring fishing is the absolute best time in Florida, and we look forward to calmer waters, warmer temperatures, and all the fish it brings!

OFFSHORE REPORTS

As crazy weather continues, sheepshead, black drum, and flounder seem to be dominating the reports this week. Black drum can be found at their usually grassy knolls, and flounder are being found in the passes and nearshore reefs.

All the bridges and pylons are holding sheepshead right now as well. Fiddler crabs or small shrimp on a jig head seem to be producing good results there.

There are reports of snapper moving in offshore, and we still hear rumors of permit and triple tail out there.

BAIT SHOP TIPS, TALES, & SALES!

The bait shop is hoppin’ as usual, and we’re selling shrimp and pinfish chum like crazy! Because shrimp is the magic bait and chum seems to be a hit right now – we’ve decided to put them on sale.

  • Five dozen small shrimp – $16
  • Buy one get two free, pinfish chum

Good things come to those who bait, and we’re equally as excited for all the fish and bait springtime will bring.

Thank you for joining us today. Stop in anytime with questions or to gain a local report. We’ll do what we can to help you Catch More Fish!
