Welcome to the weekend fishing prediction with Captain Griffin Deans of Slot Machine Fishing Charters and Skyway Bait & Tackle!

This weeks’ post is a bit late because we’ve had nice weather which has kept us busy!

We have some high winds and funny weather coming in on Friday with a nasty little front. It’s going to cool off big time (thirty degrees or more) on Saturday. If you’re planning on snook fishing it may be a bit tough.

Plan on targeting sheepshead, snapper, and other cold weather species that won’t mind the drop and let the snook rest for the weekend. We should be back up into normal temperatures by next week.

This past week has been awesome with higher-than-normal temperatures and big snook!

If you’re set on fishing this weekend, we understand. Sometimes you’ve just got to go and be a part of nature and enjoy it regardless of the setting.

Either way, we wish you all luck this weekend.

INSHORE KAYAKERS have been happy this week! Calm winds and warm temperatures have allowed for all-day activity in the shallows. We’ve caught a variety of species, including stingrays, redfish, trout, flounder, black drum, sheepshead, snook, and BIG mojarra! We even got a little sun.

As the winds pick up and the chance of rain increases, be mindful about your outings. Pack good gear, watch the weather, know your plan, and tell your friends. There’s no bad weather, just bad gear, and bad plans.  Stay safe out there and share those photos!

OFFSHORE REPORTS

Locals report catching sheepshead, black drum, and flounder this week with the occasional permit and tripletail. Sheepshead are getting as big as 4-5 lbs!

BAIT SHOP TIPS, TALES, & SALES!

Sheepshead can be found around just about any jetty, pylon, or pier these days. Small shrimp on a jighead is producing good results.

You can purchase live shrimp in small, medium, large, and jumbo sizes at our bait shop. We have weekly deals on sizes and mixed bags in addition to sales on cut and frozen bait.

FWC extended their catch-and-release regulation for all snook, red drum, and sea trout until May 2021. This extension effects our immediate waters and surrounding areas. We appreciate those of you who support these changes and aim to find ways to support you in return.

For the entire month of February we are running a LOVE YOUR FISH CONTEST! Find us on Facebook @skywaybait and comment on this post with a photo of your live snook, redfish, or sea trout release.  You’ll be entered to win a half-day fishing charter with our very own Captain Griffin Deans!
