Here are three simple adjustments to help you land more fish on the flats this week:
3 Simple Adjustments for Success
1. Use the Right Shrimp Size and Avoid Unsorted Bait
Buying an unsorted, random bucket of bait usually leaves you with mixed sizes that don’t match where you’re fishing. Pinning a giant shrimp onto a tiny hook in knee-deep water near Snead Island causes it to sink like a rock into thick grass. Conversely, throwing a tiny shrimp into heavy current near the Green Bridge gets it washed away before a fish ever sees it.

The Adjustment: Choose pre-sorted live shrimp. Use Medium live shrimp on shallow grass flats and around mangroves so your bait drifts weightlessly right above the turtle grass. When fishing deeper potholes or channel edges, step up to Large live shrimp so gamefish can easily locate your offering.

Once the tide starts moving, currents wash disoriented baitfish right out of the grass into waiting ambush spots.
