FLATS FISHING REPORT 11 26

The last week on the flats from Tampa Bay down through Anna Maria and into Sarasota Bay has been steady, clean, and very predictable thanks to stable tides and light NE winds. Water temps have held in the upper 60s to low 70s, which has pushed most fish into classic fall feeding patterns.

Redfish

Reds have been cruising the edges of the flats early and dropping into potholes by mid-morning. The best window has been the first 90 minutes of incoming. Most fish are slot with a few overs. If someone searches for a bait shop near me before heading out, this is the week to tell them to grab shrimp early because demand is high.

Snook

Still plenty of activity. Snook are stacked around creek mouth pinch points and the backsides of sandbars on the warm tide. They’ve been smashing live offerings, and customers looking up fishing bait shop near me and live bait near me have been rolling in asking for shrimp and whitebait alternatives.

Speckled Trout

The flats are producing excellent keeper trout in 3–5 feet. Large schools are sitting over grass with broken bottom. Late afternoons have been ridiculous. Anyone punching in fish bait shop near me or bait shops is coming out here for this bite.

Flounder

The flounder push is still happening, and it’s getting better. They’re stacked along sandy cuts, almost motionless until a bait drifts past. Not a huge number, but quality.

Sheepshead

The early winter pattern is building around residential docks and bridge pilings. You can already see the shift — more sheepshead every single day. People searching bait places near me have been grabbing shucked clams and shrimp for this bite.

Mackerel

Still around. Not thick like peak season, but steady action on the deeper grass lines when the tide moves. Clean water days make it easy.

Pompano

Pompano have been sliding through the sandy drop-offs. Best action has been on strong incoming tides near passes and edges of bars. Classic November behavior. Be sure to grab a Slayer chili Pepper in you favorite color!

Overall Conditions

  • Water clarity: clean early, slightly stirred on the afternoon breeze

  • Best fishing windows: sunrise plus first incoming, and the late-day falling tide

  • Depths: trout in 3–5 ft, reds in 1–3 ft, snook tied to moving water choke points

Traffic has been light, so fish have been relaxed and actively feeding.
