Skyway Fishing Report 1 5

Q: What’s the most consistent bite at the Skyway this week?

A: If you want to bend a rod during the day, it’s Sheepshead. They are gathered on the pilings in massive numbers. We are also seeing a steady Mangrove Snapper bite for those using lighter leaders.

Q: I’m hearing rumors about Sharks. Is that real or hype?

A: It’s real. The night-time shark bite has been the highlight of the last 7 days. Anglers are landing Blacktips and the occasional Bull Shark using heavy gear in the deep channel. There’s also a heavy Black Drum bite occurring after dark near the bridge fenders.

Q: What bait should I bring for the night run?

A: For the Sharks, you need big, oily chunks. Frozen Mullet, Bonito and Jacks are the top producers right now. If you want to hook into a really big one, rig up a frozen stingray and hold on! Since we have the largest selection of frozen bait in the state, we can get you rigged with exactly what’s working. For the Black Drum, large live shrimp or a cracked crab is the way to go.

Q: What’s the “day shift” setup?

A: For the Sheepshead, keep it simple: a #1 or #2 bait-holder hook and just enough weight to stay vertical against the piling. Live Shrimp from our tanks is the #1 choice, but if the pinfish are a nuisance, switch to frozen sand fleas, which we keep in stock at our #fishingbaitshopnearme.

Q: Why is Skyway Bait & Tackle the essential stop?

A: We are the closest #baitshopnearme with the inventory to handle both the light-tackle pier fisherman and the heavy-duty shark hunters. Whether you need #livebaitnearme, #baitplacesnearme, or #fishbaitshopnearme advice, we’ve got the local knowledge and the state’s biggest frozen bait freezer to make sure you’re ready for the rail.
